Small Press Tuesday
While large box stores see record sales on Black Friday, with the advent of Small Business Saturday, we are witnessing growing support for small scale artists and craftsmen – both online and in our local communities – often paying more for unique and lovingly produced finds.
Small press publishing, however, remains on the outskirts of this movement. We at Bannerwing Books are increasingly confused by the idea that mass production equals quality in the publishing world whereas the opposite holds true with nearly every other product.
Last year, Bannerwing Books Senior Editor, Cameron Garriepy, wrote:
Increasingly, the more time I spend with professional authors who happen to publish independently or through small indie presses (which I will lump together for the purposes of this ramble), I see more interesting writing, more daring, genre-crossing thinking, and more collaborative spirit than I’ve seen in most of the mainstream writing I’ve read in the last couple of years. The indie publishing community exchanges services, supports one another, and is constantly learning and evolving to stay competitive. If you ask me, that’s pretty impressive.
This year, we’d like to encourage you to buy small press. Since most small press authors lack the advertising budget of their traditionally published counterparts, we’d like to help you find some amazing authors. The links below will set you onto the path of adventure and poetry, mystery and romance, all under the guidance of authors who may be small, but their words are mighty.
If you are small press or self-published author, feel free to add a link to your work below. Bannerwing Books is offering this advertising service free of charge because we believe in the talent of independent authors and the community we are helping to build. If you link, please snag our Small Press Tuesday code and share it with others to help build exposure. Don’t forget to like Bannerwing Books on Facebook for more news and other ways to support indie authors.
